14-Mar-06 12:28 ET In Play Sony to delay the release of its PlayStation 3 next-generation video game console - DJ (SNE) 47.48 +0.71: Dow Jones reporting that Sony Computer Entertainment will delay the release of its PlayStation 3 next-generation video game console until early November because the copy protection technology for the Blu-ray Disc has not been finalized, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported in its Wednesday morning edition.

That's November in Japan btw.

I'm guessing we won't see it here in Aus until at least mid 2007.

Just thought you might all wanna know, especially if you're one of those holding out for one.

Damn this could really hurt Sony. Microsoft has a whole year to convince people to buy the 360. A smart move would be to release Halo 3. Oh well looks like I'll have to get a 360 I don't mind though it looks like a good console. I hope Nintendo don't push back the Rev.

I expected as much.

I think Microsoft knew this also.

Is anyone else annoyed that they're delaying the PS3 purely because of their silly, elitist format?

Not really. It needs to be sorted out. Because as it is if they rush this they are going to ruin the next generation of DVD. Both HD DVD and Blu Ray need some serious overhauls in their copy protection and they need to cut back on it. As it stands they are completely ludicrous in their plans for the copy protection. Who the hell wants to HAVE to have their dvd player connected to the internet just to get permission to play a disc? Even then, if your HDTV isn't HDCP compliant your screwed because it just simply won't send your TV a HD signal.

As it stands I and a lot of other people are going to be boycotting it if they go ahead with this bullshit. The reality is for us HDTV owners that if you play current gen DVD's in an upscaling DVD player the results are more than acceptable. So really when you weigh up the situation it isn't going to be worth the hassle for such a small benefit.

うるさい!!!
For the poster who was concerned about the Revolution, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has stated that the releasing of the Revolution this year is crucial for the success of their new console. Cant remember the date of the top of my head but its suppose to be third quarter i think. I'll see if I can find the article.

'Worldwide' release of PS3 in November confirmed by Sony.

For the Revolution I think a launch around Thanksgiving is the current rumor. For America, that is.

I'm with you, freakylime. Sony have their heads so far up their arses they can't tell how badly they're gonna fail.

Quote from Ken Kutaragi, last year:

"[PS3] is not a game machine. We've never once called it a game machine. I'm not going to reveal [the PS3's] price today. I'm going to only say that it'll be expensive. I'm aware that with all these technologies, the PS3 can't be offered at a price that's targeted towards households."

... "the PS3 can't be offered at a price that's targeted towards households." WTF? If people with houses can't afford a PS3, then homeless people sure as hell can't, so who's gonna buy it then?
