GFW Magazine has revealed the new entry in DICE's Battlefield series, Battlefield Heroes. It's planned for release this Winter (Q2/3) and will be EA's first title to use their "Play 4 Free" model which uses in game ads and micro payments (think Korean MMOs where you buy items with real money) to cover costs. Getting the game and playing it will be entirely free, though. Quote: Advertisements will appear on the website and the 'front-end' of the game although none will appear in-game, while micropayments may be made for additional items to customize the appearance of players' avatars without any gaming advantage. The Game itself will be a third person shooter with a lower emphasis on skill and strategy, making the barrier to entry lower. Quote: a system will be in place to match players of similar skill levels together for fair play. No images or videos have been release, but here's a scan of GFW's cover for the issue it was announced in: Posted Image Wonder if the may have been inspired by a certain game. A certain team based game. With Fortresses. Maybe 2 of them. cough Still interesting to hear about. Apparently the new Play 4 Free model is intended to combat piracy without completely abandoning PC gaming. 	Recently finished: Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank:TOD, Bionic Commando Rearmed Playing: LittleBigPlanet, Rockband!!!111 Yes. In under 3 months I went from being a 360 owner to a PS3 owner. Idiotic? Maybe. Financial Stupidity? Definately. Do I care? No bloody way!

There'll likely be ways around it, though. Apparently you access the game via a web portal. A bit of proxy playing around would get you around that...

I'm guessing that has something to do with the ads? Battlefield 2142 had the in-game ads removed for the Australian version, which I heard had something to do with our local laws.
