Sometimes I think I was born backwards
Joystiq reports on a new Playstation Network title by the name of "Little Big Planet". LBP is a physics based, co-operative online multiplayer platformer that relies somewhat on teamwork to traverse levels filled with physics based puzzles. Players are able to grab onto pretty much everything in the enviroment... including other players.

Four-player pushing and pulling aside, LittleBigPlanet also highlights user-created content, allowing players to design characters, objects and levels to share online. Given the grab-happy, emergent gameplay, downloadable custom levels should enable players to constantly discover new ways to aid or injure their pudgy little avatars. An earlier Sony presentation demonstrated some intuitive controls, with the manipulation of analog sticks and motion controls resulting in all manner of jumping, wiggling and waving.

"Quirky" and "endearing" are not two adjectives that have recently been linked to Sony, but it's good to see the opportunity to do so finally presenting itself. LittleBigPlanet's stunning graphics, charming characters and strong online component make it a great example of what the PS3 is really capable of. And it's got a 2-D perspective (that's half the Ds the system is capable of) to boot!
You can check out some gameplay footage from Gamevideos below. I don't know about you, but I love the look of this. Definitely a downloadable title I'd be interested in playing.

New video courtesy of Gamevideos. This one goes into more detail about the content creation side of the game. This is the coolest damn thing Sony has showed off in a LOOOONG time. Now they've made a "platformer maker", reckon they will do a "fighter maker" and so on? I hope so. I'm buying a PS3 first price drop no doubt, now. Or when rumble controllers hit. Whichever is sooner.

Looks pretty cool and pretty good fun. I like puzzlers and this has great potential to be an awesome platform puzzler... Loderunner anyone?? :D

Giving users the ability to create content is a great move by Sony. I have seen user created content work extremely well in PC sim racing and has the ability to keep something fresh and new for many years to come. Good to see that the PS3 is more than just a powerful console.

Yes. In under 3 months I went from being a 360 owner to a PS3 owner. Idiotic? Maybe. Financial Stupidity? Definately. Do I care? No bloody way! :D

YES! Loderunner! That's a brilliant comparison, especially the Windows version that came out years ago as it had a built in level designer (that I used so much you couldn't believe it).
But yes, as you say, good to see Sony is doing something far more compelling than "GRAPHICS, PHYSICS, BLUE RAYZ". Srsly, they better do more LittleBigPlanet type games, this is awesome.

Sony has confirmed the release for LittleBigPlanet for September this year according to this article. As the article states this may be a bit of a wait for some but I reckon it will suit me fine, by the time it releases I may have actually bought a PS3 ^_^.

Oh, and have some yummy CES vids!
