Sometimes I think I was born backwards
I got a chance to play the first episode of this over the weekend. I wasn't expecting much (since I had heard not-good-things) but I tell ya, this game is easily as funny as Hit the road. I wasn't paying attention to the clock, but the episode was at least 3 or more hours long. I was tossing around the idea of buying the first season, but now I definitely am. 35 US for 6, 3-4 hour long episodes of Sam & Max? Sold.
If you're interested, you can download a demo of the first episode here from Internode (which means the download doesn't count for Internode users :)). You won't regret it... unless it has the same affect on you as it did me, and you were planning to spend that $35US on something else :P

Kotaku reports that Season 2 is in the works and will be out this Autumn (northern hemisphere, as in, Q3 '07).

"Season One was a great success, but it's just a starting point for us," says Telltale's CEO Dan Connors. "The episodic model presents so many opportunities to innovate and engage the audience in brand new ways. Just wait until you see what Telltale and GameTap have in store with Season Two."

"GameTap and Telltale successfully proved the idea that games can work in a TV show format," said Ricardo Sanchez, vice president of content and creative director for GameTap. "The Sam & Max episodes continue to be among the top titles played at GameTap and we expect that Season Two will be an even bigger draw."
Here's the screen that was released:

Incidentally, about 2 episodes of Season 1 was the same length as Hit the Road. Considering the entire first season is 6 eps and costs 35 bucks, it's a hell of a bargain.

Sense is not common.
I played the demo a few month back, it was an absolute blast. Season One is on my 'to get' list. Unfortunately, so are a lot of other things.

Looking for big improvements or additions? A new graphics engine or something? Beat it kid, you don't get how things are done around here. Sam & Max's episodic debut was a big hit for Telltale, no way they're going to go changing things for Season 2. As you can see from these new screenshots. Same deal, new puzzles, new jokes. Like rats vs babies, and oldie but definitely a goodie.

New details courtesy of Kotaku.
Quote:

It will commence on November 8 for GameTap subscribers, and will be available on November 9 on Telltale's site. Following that, each episode will launch on the second Thursday of each month, first on GameTap then on Telltale's site a day later. Except episode 2. It launches on January 10/11, and it's after that the monthly schedule kicks in. The series will run until April, and include five games in all.

I played Ice Station Santa last night, pretty darn good ep. Maybe not as good as the finale to season 1 (Hugh Bliss is awesome), but definitely on par with or better than the rest of them.

One thing I like, though I barely had a need for it, was the addition of a hint system. Basically, if you're standing around for a while doing nothing, Max will pipe up with random stuff that might help.

Like just say if you're in the wrong place, Max'll say he's feeling claustrophobic, for instance. Pretty cool...
