Square-Enix has revealed a teaser page for a new PSP title - Dissidia Final Fantasy (logo above). According to Magic Box, the title will be a "dramatic progressive action RPG" and it will feature character designs by Tetsuya Nomura (the guy that likes belt buckles and zippers :P). Obviously more details will be revealed in a few days at the Square-Enix party.

If you want my opinion (and you do), the guy on the right? He looks a buttload like Chaos from FF1, and this game is a celebration of the 20th anniversary. Coincidence? I think not. I doubt we're looking at a remake, since there's already one out on PSP at this very moment in Japan. Maybe a full blown sequel?

Interesting that it's called dissidia final fantasy and not final fantasy dissidia. Don't think I know of any other FF game where FF isn't first billed.

Dirge of Cerberus did, but it was an FF7 spin-off and was focusing on Vincent...

Anyway, evidence seems to lead to this being a cross over brawler like, um... Smash Bros. though Square did say it was an action RPG so who knows? Here's a magazine scan...

Guess I wasn't mistaken about that being Chaos in the logo. The guy with the horned helm and shield is probably "Fighter" from FF1 and is battling Garland in the screenshot. While the other piece of artwork Zidane from FF9 and is facing off against Kuja in the second screenshot.

Hmm, somewhat reminiscent of Ehrgeiz perhaps with characters from the last 20 years of FF?

True enough, forgot about Ehrgeiz. It had a dungeon crawl mode, didn't it? Could potentially be interesting...

Few new details from 1UP's preview, nothing Earth shattering. The game is pretty much what we expected...

A brief Dissidia trailer shown at the Square Enix Party 2007 convention in Japan showed a mix of slick CG cut-scenes and real-time fighting action in the vein of Taito's Psychic Force series. As in those games, Dissidia's core mechanics appear to involve characters flying around 3D battlefields while engaging in over-the-top fisticuffs and dazzling displays of magical prowess. Only a handful of characters appeared in the clip, among them FFIV heroes Kain and Cecil, FFIX's Zidane and Kuja, and uberpopular FFVII bad-boy Sephiroth.

It's tough to say much about the game's visual quality based on this insubstantial teaser. While the clips didn't quite match up to Crisis Core's impressive visual standard, they definitely looked good for PSP, and Tetsuya Nomura's redesigned character models even managed to make FFIX's characters more palatable.

Have a trailer of some sort from Gametrailers, why don't you?!

Don't really know what to think myself. Gameplay looks pretty action packed, yet confusing. Will have to wait and see some regular gameplay vids.

the fighting scenes in that movie remind me of Devil May Cry's gameplay.

Bit of new information courtesy of Magic Box.

Square Enix revealed new details of Dissidia: Final Fantasy for PSP at Jump Festa, it has been regarded as one of the best games in the show.

    * Tidus (FFX), Ultimecia (FFVIII) and Emperor (FFII) are playable
    * The game features both free roaming 3D combats and one on one combats
    * You can lock on to a character with L trigger
    * There are two types of attacks, one to drain the "Brave" gauge, and another one to damage the opponent HP
    * "Brave" is the strength of your attacks, the more you have the more damage your attacks will be
    * The stages have pits and destructible objects, you can perform aerial maneuver near walls, like in FFVII Advent Children
    * You can run on the walls and exchange blows with opponents
    * You can choose two different combat modes: Standard and Technical
    * It is probably possible to customize the characters, as you can earn Gils and APs after each fight.
Sounds like it'll have an adventure mode, rather than being just a brawler. My interest is growing a little.
