Joystiq has an article up talking about the rumours of a Starcraft 2 announcement happening at World Wide Invitational, which is being held in South Korea next month.
Quote:

legitimacy of this Starcraft 2 information, we do know that there is a megaton announcement planned around May 19.

Speaking with Joystiq, Blizzard wouldn't confirm Starcraft 2, but said they are planning on making a huge announcement at the WWI. Starcraft 2 had previously been hinted by Blizzard's VP of business development. Obviously announcing Starcraft 2 in Korea is only appropriate, as matches are held in stadiums, carried on television and are practically a national sport. This way, Blizzard can announce the next WoW expansion at min-E3 and then save the Diablo 3 announcement for BlizzCon. So if sometime around May 19 you suddenly feel a disturbance in the force and millions of people screaming, that's just South Korea imploding from the news that Starcraft 2 is coming.
I loled. I hope all that news ends up true. Especially Diablo 3 (though Hellgate London might be a good enough substitute).

I'm pretty easy to please. Continue the semi-intriguing story, do at least WC3 upgrade level of graphics and have it play much the same with a bunch of new units...

I'm not a Blizzard fanboy I must admit. Warcraft 1 and 2 had me hooked but 3 sucked because It was Battle Realms ripped off. I never got into Starcraft and I don't like WOW :P

a lot more than that mate. complicated AI, deep physics engine, interactive landscape and environment, everything that made SC own, multiplied by whatever it needs to catch up with the lost years lol

Oh yeah, I know it should do all of that and more (expanding on the hero characters would probably be awesome), I'm just setting myself up to have my expectations smashed to pieces :D

they've been throwing around the SC2 idea for many years now, ever since that Ghost game appeared and - if you think about it - even in Warcraft III.

if we do see an SC2, it won't be until 2009 or 2010 at the latest.

Hero units will have to be very, very carefully implemented simply because of the fact that its SC, one of the most fine tuned and balanced RTS games out there. I can see a hero or commanding unist implemented, just that I dont think they will have an overwhelming affect to the battle like other games that use heroes (aka WC3)
