Will prolly still watch it. Even if Goodkind seems intent on making me hate the characters I grew to love, I'm sure the TV series will warm me up to them again no matter how dodgy it is.

Being from the producers of Xena/Hercules doesn't exactly inspire confidence though.

Edit: OK, maybe I'm lame, but that actually looks pretty cool. Stuff doesn't look how I imagined it (Richard is not nearly rugged enough, Kahlan's dress isn't nearly shiny enough, Zedd isn't nearly decrepit enough, etc), but still seems quite rad. Definitely gonna give it a shot.

So the first episode airs today in the US. The first few minutes is available to watch on the website and it looks quite bloody cool.

Yeah, production values actually look reasonably good. Despite Naked Empire almost ruining the books for me, I'mma watch.

Watched the first two episodes (they aired a two parter). The complaints I've read on the internet seemed trivial, and now that I've watched it they definitely are compared to the complaints I have. I'm not a purist or anything, but these are things that are going to cause problems in the long run (rather than stuff like the cast)...
Spoiler: click to toggle

Other than those things, there's also the matter of pacing. They have far too much exposition crammed in, and the way they've scripted events manages to somehow make them more campy than they already were. I could go on to little details that bug me, but I won't bother.

I liked some changes they made however. They've cut out a lot of scenes that I thought were superfluous or ruined the pacing of the story. But then at the same time that means they have to cram more exposition into less scenes... damn, this was supposed to be a good point :P

I dunno, your mileage will vary. It's hard to think of who to suggest the series to. Those who read the books will probably be more irate than Harry Potter fans were about the movies, and those that haven't will find it needlessly campy and probably be turned off.

Hmm, watched the two-parter last night and I'm still

I'm really glad they didn't call it wizards first rule, because it seems to be only loosely based on the books. I mean I was expecting a lot of stuff to get cut in the transition, but yeah, it's like hardly recognisable any more. I still mostly enjoyed it but it was kind of distracting with all the changes.

I'd be interested to hear thoughts from someone who watched it and hasn't read the books.

Oh yeah, watched a bit of it again while I was adjusting my TV's settings and remembered that the D'haran soldier uniforms are pretty damn cool. Cooler looking than the descriptions of the book gives them anyways. I always imagined them being more like Greek soldiers for some reason.
Funny how Goodkind is so descriptive about rooms and environment, but when it comes to people and outfits he's rather vague.1

The costumes in general are pretty nice, anyway. Zedd's robes are a bit decorative, but not that much of a bother.

I like the d'haran outfits except for the coifs. For some reason I was not expecting chain mail, thought they'd mostly be wearing leather breastplates similar to romans.

lol, exactly. Romans, Greeks. Anyone from that area wearing leather is what I was expecting. Funny how we both had that idea of their uniforms.

The coifs were definitely unexpected, especially considering how often Goodkind mentioned the free flowing blonde hair of the D'haran soldiers. Does give them a menacing quality though, which at this stage in the series is a necessity.

 Just watched ep 3. OMG it was such a train wreck of an episode. Absolutely nothing from the book. From now on I'm going to call this show Richard, the warrior princess.
