WHY SO SERIOUS!
|
Just gone to Vista SP1 Ultimate for my HTPC and it ended up working better than XP SP2. Considering installing it on my main PC. Quite fond of Vista :) |

cough.....OSX Leopard...cough.....lol..... XP was fine after SP1, Sp2 added goodies, but it was stable enough by then and unlike Vista SP1 was out in reasonable time on XP, not after companies had been requested being put back to XP. I might wait a bit before thinking about putting Vista on the iMac, having said that, apart from Sims 2 for my wife, there's not really any other reason. |

OSX Leopard has suffered from it's spate of problems. It even caused ye olde BSOD to finally appear on it's shinny screens. Update: More Leopard Problems Plague Apple @ Tomshardware.com 22/11/07 As for SP1 and SP2 XP requirements... I remember running into troubles with not upgrading SP2 - some games refused to install and some USB2.0 features and updates, failed to enable on just SP1. Also, comparing both releases for XP and Vista, the release on SP1 on BOTH systems was within the year of each of their releases. XP Released Oct/2001 SP1 Sep/2002 Vista Released Jan/2007 SP1 Mar/2008 So Vista is pretty much an XP on it's release - everyone complained about the lack of legacy support (MS-DOS comes to mind) and that you needed a much more powerful machine to get the shinny interface and effects... But don't install Vista if you need old-assed legacy support. |

Those leopard probs turned out to be caused by a hack people did, we had no problem with ours. And they were fixed within a day or so, the only real prob I had with leopard was printer drivers, and that was cause Fuji Xerox had been slack. I wouldn't say that the SP1 were within a year in each, with XP yes it was under a year, but with Vista thats 14mths. It was due about 6mths later, so it's a worry it took so long to come out. Also the bigger worry is unlike with XP, major companies weren't requesting the previous O/S and MS never extended the ending of their previous OS due to fears they would lose sales. The desperate reactions are what worries me about Vista, MS seem to have been completely surprised by how bad it went. |

Well I'm back on XP myself... the soundcard refused to install itself on Vista and I was getting tired of those Activation prompts - they show up when you remove or add a piece of 'major' hardware. XP seems sweet for now and I've re-adjusted to it =) and the soundcard works. Just kind of annoyed that I payed a pretty penny for Vista and it messed up my soundcard. |

I was intending to put Vista on via bootcamp so my wife can run Sims 2, but geeze I can't bring myself to do it. My work got us all nice little laptops with Vista on them, took it off and put XP back on. Lots of our enterprise stuff still doesn't work with Vista so I think they are waiting until the next one comes out now. |

Ya. Everyone is... It's almost as if Vista's a massive public Beta. Some good ideas in that OS... but they should've kept the original architecture for soundcards - no matter how buggy they claimed it was. |

Sometimes I think I was born backwards

Yup yup. Hearing more and more rumours that Windows 7 (previously known as Vienna, IIRC?) is being fast tracked for release next year. If it weren't for ME I'd think Vista will have been the shortest lived major OS release ever, right? |
