Sometimes I think I was born backwards
|
So you may or may not have heard that SBS secured the rights to an Aussie version of the UK TV series Top Gear back last November... well they've finally selected their presenters for the show.I have no idea who those guys are, but hey... interested to see an Aussie take on the show. |

The hosts are everything for that show. I wouldn't be surprised if most people tune in to listen to them, rather than the cars. It is kinda mesmerising listening to their chat, The Australian hosts have a hard job to live up to that. If they don't, it'll probably be just another car show that belongs on midday weekend tele or community tv. |

True enough. But I think if any network can pull it off, it's SBS. Sure, they're not very far behind being another commercial station, but they still have a certain something that sets them apart in their programming. |

The fact that they don't rely on the US for the source of most of their shows is a big help and also means they are willing to give local talent a chance beyond that one show stuck after 10:30pm that was cancelled before the second episode. The ABC is like SBS too, but with a much bigger British focus. It probably explains the humour of each of the stations, looking at it like that. |

I am hoping this show does well but I think it will die a quick and painless death. Car shows in Aus have not fared well historically and I have to wonder how much the censors will get their claws into the show (something the UK shows flaunts regulary). Besides, David Morley isn't one of the hosts so it probably won't be funny... |

Sense is not common.

I watched it. Wasn't too thrilled by it. Then again, I love Top Gear for it's sardonic English humour, not because I want to know how a double clutch works. I thought the humour was really forced and a little bit too ocka. And they all agreed and approved of everything. All the time. You can watch clips on http://www.sbs.com.au/topgearaustralia/ to get a feel for the show. |
