No fail mode (as previously mentioned) and breakneck speed which doubles the speed of the notes and song for those that are uberhardcore..
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/rock-band-2-features-no-fail-option/

Edit: New mic, cymbal pads, portable drum kit revealed. The mic is rad. Wireless plus controller buttons? Genius. The portable drums are a very neat idea, but if I'm rocking out with my drums, people can come to me :P Cymbal pads look solid. I wasn't expecting there to be 3, which is pretty cool. Looks like it's fairly customisable (like you could choose to have the ride cymbal on either side, which one you want taller than the others, etc). Quite neat.

The mic will cost $50 US, the portable drums $60 and the cymbal pads are $15 each or a set of 3 for $30.

Rumoured release dates for all three versions have been revealed by Koktau...

A friendly retail tipster sends us word that Rock Band 2 has suddenly popped up in their computer system. Better still the listings for the Playstation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 versions are all dated:

Xbox 360- September 14th

PS3- October 19th

Wii- November 18th
Sounds about right. Bit of a mistake having the Wii version come out after GHWT, IMO.

Edit:
Game|Life's Chris Kohler reports that Rock Band 2 will be fully featured on every current gen console. That includes the Wii.

It was understood that this extended to things like downloadable content and online play. While I can't be sure that Rock Band 2 for Wii will have absolutely everything that its next-gen counterparts are packing onto the disc, it's certainly not going to be as disappointing, feature-wise, as the Wii version of the original.
So basically, don't upgrade to the latest firmware, DO install the Homebrew channel and DO install the region lock removal patch, then import RB2 when it comes out in a couple of months and skip RB1 :P

Edit 2:
The 1UP show had a preview this week. Double kicks confirmed for the drums? I sure hope so. Drum trainer looks absolutely sweet. Dunno if it'd effectively teach you drums for reals, but it'd be another stepping stone to get you accustomed to them.

Rumour has it that Rock Band won't be seeing an Aussie release because retailers don't want to stock it (which has been the problem all along, apparently). What this means for Rock Band 2, I don't know.

Eye of the Tiger on expert guitar. Looks super rad. Was gonna post a full band vid, but the dude doing vocals in it had his mic volume all the way up, bloody idiot...

Edit: Here's a good full band clip! Drain you by Nirvana...

Wasn't gonna bother posting this but since people are still lurking I might as well. MTV are release an AC/DC expansion for the game that are transferable to your HDD at no charge for use in RB1/2. Not 100% sure but I think the reason for being on a disc is because it's exclusive to Walmart in the US, just like AC/DC's new album (probably part of the altogether deal?). Anyway, it features the following:
Quote:

* "Thunderstruck"
* "Shoot to Thrill"
* "Back in Black"
* "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be"
* "Heatseeker"
* "Fire Your Guns"
* "Jailbreak"
* "The Jack"
* "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
* "Moneytalks"
* "Hells Bells"
* "High Voltage"
* "Whole Lotta Rosie"
* "You Shook Me All Night Long"
* "T.N.T."
* "Let There Be Rock?
* "Highway To Hell?
* "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)?
Pretty rad selection IMO. No price announced, but it'd wanna be cheap since it only has 18 songs. That's only two more than the Red Hot Chilli Peppers album they just released for $20 US. I reckon about 25-30 US would be fair.

Also I finished the drum challenge the other night, Panic Attack by Dream Theater's the last song. It was pretty crazy even on hard. I had a little play of it with no fail mode on expert and it's just ridiculous...
