WHY SO SERIOUS!
I received this email tonight

How about you stop spamming your members. No other board does this. It's quite rude.

I find this quite strange considering it's quite common for websites to do this. Also the fact that if a user does not wish to receive such emails they can turn it off in their user profile.

Thoughts?

This person in question prob just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Anyway you have been sending lots out the past month. Maybe have a once a month newsletter?

I've been sending lots out lately to try and attract attention and let people know we exist and have changed. I won't be sending any more out for a while. Perhaps I have sent too many out lately and that's what he got shitty about. But still it's something he can turn off if he wants. I only send the email out to members who have been inactive for a specific amount of time so chances are he isn't even interested in this place any more.

I don't think it's a problem, like you said if it's a problem they can turn it off.

I'm sure when you sign up there's something in the terms and conditions that makes it not spam. It's easy enough to disable emails from admins. In fact, it asks you that when you sign up iirc.

I think emails from sites/messageboards are awesome, mostly 'cause they tell me about something I don't know about or whatever. Like 1UP has this newsletter thing telling you about popular blog updates on the site etc...

Yeah I like them when I see something interesting I read it otherwise I skip them. So if for example the emails had news and alerts of other things int he community then I would be all for it.

I just logged out and checked the ToS.

You may not send spam messages promoting your board. >.>

Falls under section 12 Prohibited Behaviour

So um... lol?

Likewise, using the board is at your own risk so yes, receiving messages comes with registering and agreeing with the ToS
