A trailer! Actually looks pretty decent. From the set pieces shown looks to kinda follow the game, I guess? Hopefully has the psychological stuff from the game. Sounds like it may.

They seem to be capturing the overall dark tone that the Max Payne series is known for. Mark Walhberg seems to be a pretty good choice to take on the role of Payne too which is nice to see. Makes me want to play Max Payne again for hundreth time.

Could it possibly be true? A game to movie production that might actually work?? OMGWTFBBQ!

Yes. In under 3 months I went from being a 360 owner to a PS3 owner. Idiotic? Maybe. Financial Stupidity? Definately. Do I care? No bloody way! :D

As long as they keep the narcotics, psychotic episodes and the dark theme, then it shall be good.

Actually that's one thing I really hope they keep is the obvious addiction Max has to pain killers. I really hope the best for this movie though, Max Payne is friggen rad, even if it's not the most original concept ever (then again, I don't recall ever seeing much like it, so maybe it is pretty original? *shrugs*).

Yeah, they're pretty hot posters. The second isn't even totally obvious that it's advertising something...

Edit: Another trailer. Reckon I'll definitely see this. <3 Max

Possible spoilers lay ahead...!

Well I saw this on Saturday and I have to say it was a seriously flawed movie...

First off, the whole idea of Max Payne seeking revenge for his dead wife and child is really only introduced WELL into the movie. They do mention this at the begining but it deserves more than just a couple of words between two cops coming out of Max's office (nice touch on the office but) afterall it's the driving force behind Max Payne.

Secondly, the way they presented the character Mona Sax was simply bad. The whole appeal of Mona from the game was that she was shrouded in mystery.. kind of like the G-Man in the Halflife series. In the movie you're given the reason why she's hunting down the people behind the drug Valkyr... I'm sure she explains this in the game but I'm certain there was no 'cutscene' to it. We don't need to know Mona Sax... not to mention her ties with the Russians... which was confusing since I remember they were the enemy in the game.

Speaking of mystery, the whole aura of Norsk Mythology that was presented in the game is cracked open in the movie. It was an awesome theme to have in the background, but we didn't need to be told that the apparitions, which are Valkyries, are just a figment of the drug's affects... They should've left us wondering if they were real or not.

Lastly... the drug Valkyr is really, really stupid in the movie. I think in a bid for the director to achieve the PG-13 rating they changed the drug's administration from being injected to being swallowed from a vial. Also the story behind it is really weak - Spoiler StartThe drug Valkyr was originally a top secret military drug to make their infantry fearless and was worked in by Max Payne's late wife. Like all drugs there are some side-effects which are what the apparations are... 1% of the general public gains superhuman strength and the otheres see apparations and pretty much kill themselves.

So here's the flaw, why take a drug that has a 99% failure rate that ends up in horrible death?
Another flaw is the character Jack Lupin. He's taken the drug and has gained superhuman strength, but succumbs to a single bulletshot... guess the drug doesn't work. And the last flaw is Max's Wife's murderer. Apparently it was Lupin, but Lupin was "unleashed" on Max's Wife by some security guard idiot who works at Aesir Corporation, makers of the drug. Sure he knows Max and the Wife since she's worked there so long, but it's really... really.. ah screw it.. just watch the movie and you'll see how screwed up it is Spoiler End

So there we have it.
A flawed movie-to-game experiment that almost succeeded... but then slapped everyone in the face who saw it. But... it's still watchable....sort of.

IIRC Mona was never given a motive for her actions in the first game. Haven't played the second, so maybe some was given there.

I guess I'll cross my fingers and hope someone shouts me? :P

In the first game Mona was out to avenge her sister who was killed or commited suicide in relation to V (could be wrong, been a while since I played).

Thanks for the review nspa! I was really hoping they would do this one right but it sounds like Hollywood screwed the video game-movie yet again. Quite a shame really given it had a pretty solid source to work from... I will probably still see it eventually though just because I like to cause myself agony and what not...
