Some are! Woot for HDD installs! Damn shame about the interface update. Looks like arse. Hopefully the modified guide window is going to be a solid alternative... Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image |

With the new HDD installing service, it might mean that MS will start selling games remotely... but it will probably be at AU prices (you know, $90+). |

I think they end up being more ugly than Miis because they're less abstract. Really, this part of the announcement was the low point of the whole conference. They should have mentioned the actual GOOD stuff about the update like the optional HDD installs and stuff instead of this avatar garbage... |

Watched a video demo of the dashboard update. Skip to the very end to see the new guide window. It's like all the awesome stuff about the blades compacted into a window form. The guide is God damned awesome. Everything else is a piece of shit and I wish updating was optional. |

Yeah the new guide is awesome over the old one. As you say, pretty much a small blade-system that kicks the pants out of the old guide for usability. Not so sure about the rest of the dashboard, seems cleaner and definately flashier but i'm not sure about how much better it will be to get to what you want fast. Also, with the introduction of the Miis... I mean avatar duded thingys, what happens to the old gamer pictures? Some people actually bought gamerpics and from what I saw they are cut out entirely. This also seems to be the way for the old dashboard themes too since the blade system is a goner. I know they weren't really worth the money but now it seems you can't even use them anymore.

Old themes and gamer pics are now useless... or rather, that's what most people are thinking/expecting. The interface seems way clunkier in my opinion. It acts like the cross media bar but without any of its benefits. In order to see things right at the start of it you have to scroll to the start of it. The concept is fricken awesome to be honest, but the execution is woeful. I could have done a better job organising it... |

Listened to the latest Major Nelson podcast. Looks like avatars will be completely optional. If you want to use your gamer pics instead, you can use your gamer pics. The themes will also work as wall papers now, too. So that's those two concerns down. I still think it looks kinda clunky in execution, but there's always the hot new guide window... |
