I don't play my DS much these days (I go through phases). Also, it looks really stupid (unless I'm missing the awesomeness of it...?) - so phat still for me. |

I can't see me getting one no. I already have 2 lites and a phat so I hardly need a 'flashier' version now do I? And besides, is it just me or do they seem to be trying to make it a bit more like a PSP with the memory card etc. |

From reading various interviews with Nintendo personages over the weeks, I think I've pieced together what's going on. Obviously the DSi exists to boost sales. Ultimately what Nintendo are trying to do is create a personalised experience for the handheld by having your own software, photos, music etc there. So instead of sharing DS', people buy their own. Even if this doesn't draw in a new audience, Nintendo could increase the total number of DS' sold in Japan by up to around 60% just by having every DS gamer owning a DS themselves. If sparkly new features draw in fresh blood, all the better. I guess you could draw parallels to PSP, especially as one of the strengths of that handheld is the flexibility to do whatever you want once you hack it (and I'm talking beyond piracy here). |

I scarcely play my delicious navy Lite, and nothing exclusive for the DSi has piqued my interest what so ever. Very no. |

I have two questions about the DSi before I buy it. 1. Is it any bigger in size? I know it will be slimmer, obviously. 2. Will it continue to play cards from different regions? |

Hello, Dexter Morgan!
|
It's the same dimensions as a DS, but it's thinner, so, laying it flat, it won't be as tall as a DSL. It will play cards from different regions no problems, just like the DSL, BUT it will only access the Australian DSiWare Shop channel, and will only play DSiWare from that shop channel. As far as we know. The only region restriction it has is preventing you from downloading DSiWare apps from Japan/America/Elsewhere that isn't Australia. This is due to the various classification requirements in all these countries, there is no one single blanket classification that can apply to the entire world. So each individual country has to assess the release of each DSiWare app, and rate it. Then it can be released in that particular countries region. You can see the thinness difference here: ![]() Screen size comparison: ![]() Also, apparently the DSi has a clickier Dpad (much like how the phat was,) rather than being all mushy like the lites, this is quite appealing to me. I miss the Phat's clicky D-pad. Edited by Ingram, Tuesday Mar 17 2009, 08:13 PM.

My wife has already traded her blue phat on it....I'm undecided with the Lite...oh and after chatting with a person who will remain unknown...the reason for the big price hike was due to the previous DS being a bit underpriced....I'll say no more. |

Hello, Dexter Morgan!

Under priced? At $199.95 RRP? Really? Are you talking strictly in just AU, or do you mean worldwide? |

Actually I had suspected that the comparatively higher price on the DSi was due to the current economic climate. Nintendo is about to raise the price of the Wii (to retailers) in the UK by about 20 pounds because of this. Economists are talking about Japan being in a depression of all things, so it's not surprising seeing price hikes on products from Japanese companies. |

If anyone is going to give the DSi a bash at EB in Melbourne on Saturday let us know. We could have a mini DSA meet up or something? Hehe

I might consider buying one since my Lite's touch screen wasn't callibrating (and was about 1cm off), got wet after I tried to use some windex to clean it, and then the screen cracked.. Sure i could've just replaced the screen, but I burnt the Lite's cover attempting to warm up the screen (because of the windex and ironically I was watching a DSi review) and then I pretty much tore it apart to see how solid it is... and it is... although a screw driver to the touch screen completely bricks it.. but a screw driver to the rear cover doesnt penerate to the circuit boards. All that's left of it is the battery (took it out before testing how solid it was) and a picture i took of the aftermath... it's my current avatar. =P If anyone's interested I could post it up, but seeing it's a DS forum it might make some of you weep. Anyways, what was I talkin abouit? Yeah, might get a DSi, but I have to consider whether the games are worth it. So far I've been qutie taken with GTA and was dissapointed when my touch screen gave up and you need the touchy to boost cars. Maybe I should trade in my old DS games for it? |

I'd like to see a better picture, sounds hilarious! You could probably sell that battery on ebay for 20 bucks or something you know ![]() |

If you actually want to get any value out of your old DS games, you should trade them to get copies of GTA at JB Hifi. Unless you honestly think you can get more than $20 apiece for them, the trade value of GTA is going to far surpass anything two games that you own. Considering you're not bundling them with a DSL to get a trade-in deal, this would probably get you the best value. The quicker you do this, potentially the more money you'll get. Otherwise, you could try eBay. It's more potluck than simply trading the games in, but you tend to get better deals because the middleman has gone, though not those annoying eBay fees. |

Well here's the aftermath of it.![]() Thing was torn apart by using two pliers and by twisting it in pieces. It's an extremely solid build since I thought I could crack it without using the pliers. And that's it... I officially have no "working" handhelds... apart from the PSP Slim but the battery was fried a long time ago and I'm tethered to the power cable for any game time. |

Holy shit! It's barely recognisable
I think you should get a DSi, but be more careful with it, and don't have any pliers near it!

Oh it wasnt my fault the screen decided not to calibrate. Always kept the machine inside one of those hardcases that have felt inside. =) And yea, i'll take care of the new one, especially since it's RRP is almost the price of a Wii or 360 Arcade...which begs teh question, what was the price of the DS Lite when it first came out? Was it $199.95? |

Dude, that DSl totally needs to be burried in the backyard in a shoebox, as reward for its faithful service. I won't be getting a DSi. I don't even know where my DS phat is at the moment. Hmmm... |

I hope it's gone, you should get a Lite/i, the Phat is just an old crippled lady. It's no way to be playing DS games on!

Nevermind that, just don't give NSPA a pair of pliers if he tells you he's going to 'fix' something!
That's a bit hypocritical coming from you right now eh?
