Posted Image[xtable]If you read the DSi Vs Lite Examination I wrote, you'd know that I felt a bit concerned that the DSi would be easily susceptible to marks and scratches thanks to its new matte finish. Since the DSi is such an expensive item, it makes sense to want to wrap it up in a box of tissues and keep it warm. Unfortunately this isn't suitable for when we actually want to use it, or put it in our pocket.

Enter 3rd Earth's Console Glove! A thin silicon based skin that wraps around the outside of your DSi and covers the entire front and back of the system. There's a cut-out on the front for the camera , one where the stylus is stored and the SD card slot too. The top of the DSi for the most part is uncovered, but this is due to the console needing to be flexible, as well as accessible in that area.

3rd Earth has done a great job at matching the black silicon to the actual colour of the DSi itself. It's very difficult to tell there is a skin on the system unless you look closely. If you don't want black there are 4 other colours to choose from, ranging from purple, white, blue and pink.

It also comes with a wrist strap and a little cushion looking thing that's actually a handy little screen cleaner. Sure it might look a bit dicky dangling there, but you can always take it off.

I picked this up for a reasonable $14.95 from EB. I've seen 3rd Earth products in JB Hifi too so they’re fairly common. If you're after discreet, soft feeling protection for your new DSi then I recommend this glove.

If you have long fingers these kind of get in the way, but I don't think it will be a huge distraction.

It fits really nicely to the DSi. Not too loose at all :)

They did a good job at matching the colour, even in camera shots using the flash.

Looks okay, but I've never been a fan of silicon coverings for any of my hand-helds. It takes the feeling away and it's shinny appeal - it'd be like wrapping Jennifer Hawkins in glad wrap. You know, just in case some wayward fan's maker manages to accidentally tag her forearm.

Now something like a pouch or an air-foam bag would be good for transportation =)

I spotted this beauty off Kotaku.com:

Apparent;y it's a "System Wallet" from a company called BDA in North America... would be nice to see something similar down here in Aus and please bring it fast, I'm no expert in plastics, but I'm pretty sure the plastic cover that the DSi was wrapped in isn't sufficient enough to prevent damage when I take the thing to work.

It does look pretty sexy but it's useless when you're using the system. At least the silicon cover is on it 24/7 :P

Yes, but when you're playing the DS, you're holding it. So if you trust yourself enough, the DS shouldn't come to any damage. When you're not playing the DS, you put it in a safe spot so it receives no damage. If you're still concerned, or want to take the DS somewhere, you put it in a case. I think that's what nspa is getting at.

I can't say I can remember ever dropping my DS. It has received damage, but through normal wear and tear, not misuse. It'd nice to be actually able to clean it though, some of my buttons are a bit sticky.

I can, though might not have been while you were using it. Which is probably your point.
